Cebu has always been hosting great things! If my lolo is alive, he will remind me about the great Battle of Mactan. If my lolo is here, I will detail to him the success of ASEAN summit, and I will boast to him the Cebu ICT 2007 International Conference and Exhibition that will be held on June 26-28, 2007.
And if he is still awake (as great things sometimes tire us, young and old), I will replay about the 1 million Cebuano votes and the historic oath taking of President Arroyo in Cebu.
A year ago, during the 2nd ICT Strategy Summit held in Cebu City, senior IT analyst of XMG-Asia Pacific, Cesar Tolentino, expressed his confidence that Cebu will soon lead in the world’s Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) support provider and in positioning itself as a high-end IT investment hub.
As reported by Philippine Information Agency, Tolentino said,
Cebu is capable of going beyond the outsourcing or “call centers hub,” because of its pool of IT skills in the engineering and high technology capabilities. It can be a leader not only in increasing call centers but also in back office work and technical support from office, sales and marketing operations. He added that the presence of universities that are strong in IT courses make Cebu more attractive to all types of BPO-related businesses.
This year, another prestigious event will be held in Cebu, the Cebu ICT 2007 International Conference and Exhibition, which will not only boost Cebu’s vibrant ICT industry but also its global position as ICT hub.
According to Cebu ICT 2007 homepage,
the objective (of the conference) is to provide a venue that will bring together significant stakeholders from the ICT capitals of Asia – Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, China, and India – to discuss their vision for sustaining and accelerating the transformation of Asia into the world’s premiere IT investment destination and global outsourcing center.
Cebu ICT 2007 is being organized with the support of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and Bureau of Investments (BOI), and in collaboration with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT). The initiative aspires to help harness the Asian potential in the vital frontier of innovation ecosystem advancement, investment promotion, and human capital development through ground-breaking, regional collaboration.
What is more exciting is the First Asia IT Quiz Show & Website Design Competition! “For the very first time in Asia, Cebu ICT 2007 will be the venue of the “1st Asia IT Quiz Show & Website Design Competition.”
Participating Asian countries shall be invited to send at least three candidates from among the cream of the crop in their harvest of most recent ICT graduates to compete with their Asian neighbors in various IT quiz and website design competition categories.
Website Designing is so fascinating. I am confident that Cebu’s IT graduates can level up and stand out as the best in this area.
