Vote God on May 10, 2010

Will you vote (presidentialCandidate) or (anotherPresidentialcandidate)? A good friend from my hometown in Mindanao asked me through text (SMS).

Unfortunately, he only mentioned two names. There are 9 presidential candidates to choose. Apparently, only the very popular candidates are usually mentioned. Because I know that he knows I am vocal on my support to one presidential candidate, I suspect he wanted to engage another lengthy campaign discussions. I think of another thing. I want to share to him about Vote God advocacy.

So I replied: I will vote God on May 10!

I just read fellow Cebu blogger’s post about election, Vote God this Philippine Elections 2010.

Vote God

Intriguing indeed! How can we vote God who is not even a candidate? In Vernon’s article he suggested (which inspire me),

Look to your conscience and choose the way of GOD! Do not just listen or even take the word of these aspiring public servants but instead do your research and I encourage you to use this L-A-S-E-R test as your guide.

Another blogger who mentioned about Vote God crafted the striking truth when she wrote that deciding who to vote lies in our minds, hearts, and hands. Isn’t her post Let’s Vote God sounds equally intriguing as Vernon’s?

Recently, I wrote and I asked, Do your candidates pass the LASER test for Election 2010? In that post, I mentioned about Vote God campaign by the Dilaab Foundation.

What is Vote God?

Going back to my friend. As expected my friend exploded with quick reactions. Unsa na nga klase nga joke bai?

Of course you know that I was not kidding. Later my friend understood what I meant. Thanks to God and thanks to Skype. (smile)

Vote God, as described, is a

[..] faith-impelled advocacy which hopes to infuse the electoral process with Christian values and for the discerning bloc to muster enough moral courage to choose good over evil, even the lesser evil, during the elections.

It is choosing the way of  God!

Upclose: Chairman Bayani Fernando

I have decided to run, declared Chairman Bayani Fernando when asked if he consider to run as president in 2010. Fernando recently visited Cebu and spent a fraction of his time meeting some Cebu bloggers, and student writers and leaders. I got the opportunity to see him upclose.

If his party, Lakas-Kampi CMD will endorse an outsider (Noli de Castro) or a newcomer (Sec. Gilbert Teodoro), will he still pursue his plan? Bayani expressed with confidence his faith that he will get his party’s support. His answer was straightforward. There was no implication that he will leave Lakas-Kampi CMD and form another party like what former President Ramos did.

Ironically, on the same day he shared to us his faith on his party’s support, Malacanang announced that the President expressed her confidence that Noli de Castro would become a good president. President Arroyo is the chairperson of Lakas-Kampi CMD. Her statement was taken as strong sign that Lakas Kampi will soon adopt and endorse Noli de Castro.

Bayani Fernando is serious on his plan to become the next president. His close supporters are now working hard to prepare for that. In fact, he was introduced to us as the next president of the Republic of the Philippines. And why not? Bayani Fernando has proven track record as former mayor of Marikina and as MMDA Chairman. To sum it all, Bayani has proven track record, credentials, competence and integrity – the traits we need for a president.

However, Bayani performs poorly in surveys – too far from Noli de Castro and a little better than Sec. Gilbert Teodoro.

SWS: Most Pinoys against Cha-Cha

In a recent SWS survey, most Filipinos are not in favor of changing the constitution to extend terms  of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Who wants to see Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in Malacanang premises beyond 2010?

In a recent SWS survey, most Filipinos are not in favor of changing the constitution to extend term of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Obviously, the president’s men. No wonder, Press Secretary Jesus Dureza, prayed for it.

Obviously, the president’s son. No wonder, Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo personally initiated signature drive to amend the Constitution through a constituent assembly (Con-Ass).

But the Filipino nation has spoken in a recent SWS survey. According to the survey, 64% of the respondents are against GMA’s term extension while 15% are in favor and 21% are still undecided.

No to Cha-Cha

For Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile, the charter change this time is an “impossible dream”.

Although the palace denies reports on plans for extending terms, its allies are obviously working towards term extension.

There is a huge public distrust on the recent movement to change the constitution. This is an indication the people are just waiting for 2010 so that GMA will step down.

I agree with Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile. I am certain that the move for Constituent Assembly will not gain strenght nor prosper. Considering the JDV’s revealation, and the pending impeachment complaint, there is more likely a sudden dramatic political change.

Let’s stay awake and watch them play!
